My name is Nicky Garrett, and I have been working in Norfolk and Suffolk as a qualified midwife for over 10 years. I have worked extensively in the home and hospital settings and have experience in caring for women with high risk pregnancies as well as women with uncomplicated pregnancies.
I believe very strongly in a woman's ability to give birth, and believe that the relationship of trust built between the mum-to-be and her midwife during pregnancy is vital when it comes to the intense and exciting time of labour and birth.
It follows, then, that I think that seeing the same midwife throughout pregnancy, labour and birth and the postnatal period can be of great benefit to the health and well-being of the mother and her baby.
My aim is to provide complete continuity of carer throughout pregnancy and labour, and until the baby is 4 weeks old.
I am passionate about home births, believing that the comfort and familiarity of your own home adds to your feeling of security during labour. That security, in turn, often has a beneficial effect on labour.
Water birth is also a special enthusiasm of mine, and is an area in which I have considerable experience.
I am a member of Independent Midwives UK (formerly the Independent Midwives Association) and the Royal College of Nursing.
